1. Spain: The World's Most Family Friendly Country

When we were looking for somewhere to take our son for his 2nd birthday, we googled "the most welcoming holiday destination for little kids"... the overwhelming response = Spain! Spain is a haven for families, offering warm hospitality, child-friendly attractions, and delicious food that even picky eaters will enjoy.

Children are not only welcome in Spain, they are respected members of the community. Whether you want to relax or immerse yourself in Spain's deep culture, there is something for everyone and your little one is always welcome along for the ride.

Highlights:

  • Child-friendly culture: Whether you're heading to a restaurant, or catching a taxi, the Spanish people will be delighted by your child's presence. This was so refreshing, coming from a country where little kids are often seen as an inconvenience or annoyance in public settings.
  • The playgrounds: The streets are stroller-friendly and there is a playground on almost every corner, providing the perfect place to get some air and recover from your jet lag.
  • Spanish siesta culture: The laid-back lifestyle makes it easy to adjust to your baby’s routine.

Accommodation: We spent three weeks in Spain and stayed in various cities. Air B&B is a great way to lock in cost-effective family-friendly accommodation, such as self-contained apartments (having access to a full-sized fridge and kitchenette is pretty handy too!).

2. Fiji: Paradise for Families

Fiji’s welcoming locals and serene islands make it a top choice for family travel. Fijians adore children, and given the people's warm, nurturing natures, the feeling is mutual. The resorts cater to parents and children alike, with kids’ clubs, nanny services, and shallow lagoons perfect for splashing around.

Highlights:

  • The people: Fijians are the warmest, most welcoming people we've come across in all our travels.
  • Island hopping: Discover new beaches and friendly villages together.
  • Calm waters: Toddlers will have a blast splashing around in the calm, shallow waters.

Accommodation: The resorts in Fiji were created with families in mind. Apart from a handful of adults-only resorts, most resorts will be well equipped with child friendly pools, kids clubs and nanny services. We recommend avoiding the mainland and heading out to a nearby island. We stayed at Castaway Island and couldn't have been happier with our stay.

3. Thailand: Adventure and Comfort Combined

Thailand is a magical mix of exotic beauty and modern conveniences, making it a fantastic destination for families. From bustling cities to tranquil islands, there’s no shortage of activities to entertain little travellers.

Highlights:

  • Weather: November to March is the country's dry season and is characterised by a pleasant tropical climate with abundant sunshine, blue skies, and a refreshing breeze.
  • Beaches: Shallow waters perfect for paddling with toddlers.
  • Night markets: Experience local culture with delicious food and fun souvenirs.

Accommodation: We opt for family friendly resorts where there are pools designed for fun. Some accommodation in Thailand can be quite remote, so always check that you're nearby restaurants and grocery stores for added convenience. Make sure you also check how long the transfer is between the airport and your hotel so you can be prepared and plan accordingly (more snacks anyone?).
