School holidays are creeping up fast. The kids are excited. You're quietly Googling "easy family holidays from Australia" while pretending to watch TV.

Sound familiar? 😅

Family travel is one of the most rewarding things you can do, but it takes a little more planning than a solo trip. You need somewhere safe, easy to navigate, fun for all ages, and ideally not going to break the bank.

We've rounded up five of the best destinations in our corner of the world. Places that genuinely deliver for families, not just on paper, but in real life 🤍

1. Bali, Indonesia 🇮🇩

There's a reason Bali keeps topping the list. It's close (under six hours from most Australian cities), affordable, and absolutely packed with things to do for families with kids of every age.

Little ones love the water parks. Waterbom Bali is consistently rated one of the best in Asia. Older kids can try white-water rafting in Ubud, visit the Sacred Monkey Forest, or catch their first wave at Kuta Beach. And parents? You'll find incredible food, spa treatments, and sunsets that genuinely live up to the hype.

Ubud is amazing for a more cultural experience. Think cooking classes, rice terrace walks, and traditional dance performances the kids will actually remember. Seminyak and Canggu offer a more resort-style vibe with beach clubs that cater to all ages.

Huddo Tip: Book a private villa with a pool. They're surprisingly affordable in Bali and make life so much easier with young kids. Your own space, your own schedule, breakfast whenever you're ready.

📍 Best time to visit: April–October (dry season) 🌟 Don't miss: Waterbom Bali, Tirta Gangga water palace, a rice terrace walk in Tegalalang

2. Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺

Hear us out. Sometimes the best family holiday is a domestic one. And Queensland is genuinely world-class.

No passports. No jet lag. No language barriers. Just some of the most spectacular natural wonders on the planet, right in your backyard.

The Gold Coast is a no-brainer for families. Theme parks, gorgeous beaches, and endless dining. But don't stop there. The Whitsundays will leave everyone speechless, the Great Barrier Reef is a once-in-a-lifetime snorkelling experience, and the Daintree Rainforest near Cairns feels like stepping into a nature documentary. 🌿

Direct flights connect all major Australian cities to Brisbane, Cairns, and the Gold Coast, which makes the whole thing that much easier.

Huddo Tip: Split your trip. A few nights on the Gold Coast for the theme park energy, then up to Cairns or the Whitsundays for the natural wonders. Best of both worlds.

📍 Best time to visit: April–October (cooler and drier up north) 🌟 Don't miss: The Great Barrier Reef, Sea World, Mossman Gorge

3. Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵

If you haven't taken your kids to Tokyo yet, add it to the top of the list. Japan is one of the safest, cleanest, most family-friendly countries in the world, and Tokyo is the ultimate base camp.

DisneySea and Disneyland Tokyo are experiences that adults get just as swept up in as kids. teamLab Borderless is a digital art museum that will have everyone from toddlers to grandparents completely mesmerised. Then there's Akihabara for the gaming lovers, Harajuku for pop culture, and Shibuya Crossing because you absolutely have to see it in person. 🚶♀️

Japan's train system makes day trips incredibly easy. Hakone for Mt Fuji views, Nikko, Kamakura. All doable in a day. And the food keeps even the fussiest eaters happy, from ramen to conveyor belt sushi to matcha soft serve. 🍦

Huddo Tip: Get an IC card (Suica or Pasmo) for each family member on arrival. Works on trains, buses, and convenience stores across the country. Tap and go. Life-changing.

📍 Best time to visit: March–May (cherry blossom season) or October–November 🌟 Don't miss: DisneySea, teamLab Borderless, a day trip to Hakone

4. Singapore 🇸🇬

If "easy" is top of the priority list, and honestly, when you're travelling with kids it should be, Singapore is your answer.

It's clean, English-speaking, extremely safe, and absolutely packed with things to do. Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa Island is a massive hit with older kids. Gardens by the Bay, especially the Supertree light show at night, is one of those rare experiences that genuinely leaves everyone speechless. ✨

The Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are world-class. The food scene is extraordinary (hawker centres are a brilliant, affordable, delicious adventure). And the S.E.A. Aquarium is one of the largest in the world.

Singapore also works brilliantly as a gateway. Fly in for a few nights, then continue on to Bali, Tokyo, or elsewhere. Maximise the trip. Minimise the stress.

Huddo Tip: Don't skip the hawker centres. Maxwell Food Centre and Lau Pa Sat are great starting points. Kids love the variety, and it's one of the most authentic experiences Singapore has to offer.

📍 Best time to visit: February–April (less rainfall) 🌟 Don't miss: The Supertree light show, Singapore Zoo, Sentosa Island

5. New Zealand 🇳🇿

If your family loves the outdoors, New Zealand belongs on the bucket list. It's close, English-speaking, and has some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world, with a sense of calm and safety that makes travelling with kids genuinely relaxing.

Queenstown is the obvious star. Luge rides and jet boating for the kids, incredible alpine scenery for everyone, and the surrounding Remarkables mountain range as a backdrop to everything. Rotorua is another family favourite with geothermal hot springs, Māori cultural experiences, and the Redwoods. 🌲

The Coromandel Peninsula has stunning beaches (Hot Water Beach is a must), and Milford Sound in the South Island is one of those places that makes you feel like you're inside a nature documentary. Self-drive road trips work brilliantly here. Go at your own pace and just soak it all in.

Huddo Tip: Consider splitting your trip between islands. Fly into Auckland, explore Rotorua and the Bay of Islands, then fly down to Queenstown. Domestic flights are affordable and save a lot of driving time.

📍 Best time to visit: December–February (NZ summer) or March–April (quieter, golden autumn) 🌟 Don't miss: Hobbiton, Milford Sound, Hot Water Beach

No matter where you land, family travel is about creating the moments your kids talk about for years. The chaos, the discovery, the photos you'll look back on and smile at. 🤍

Start with what excites your kids. Layer in what excites you. The rest tends to fall into place.

Happy travels ✈️
